The sport of soccer, known as football to most of the world, has produced some great soccer players over the past years. Perhaps the most famous of all is Pel, who amazed the world with his incredible ability to maneuver the ball in a way it hadnt been done before. Pel retired more than twenty five years ago but he is still a household name on the lips of soccer players and fans around the world. His story of rising from poverty in Brazil to soccer superstar is a source of inspiration for young soccer players everywhere.

Another soccer great is Pavel Nedved. Pavel is well known both in his homeland of the Czech Republic and around the world as one of the youngest soccer players of all time to make a lasting impression. Pavel played for Sparta in the 1990s and scored many goals for the team from 1992 to 1995.

The world has seen many players who have been the focus of extreme soccer skills, but none so well known as Zinedine Zidane. Zidane was born in Algeria in 1972 and after struggling in school for several years he decided that soccer was his main interest. He was spotted at the age of sixteen by a soccer scout and very quickly found himself in Cannes. Shortly after that Zidane was playing for the French Division, scoring goal after goal and becoming the star of the team.

Today one of the most popular soccer players is David Beckham, who is the star of Great Britain when it comes to the game. At sixteen Beckham was playing for Manchester United team and was already attracting the attention of soccer scouts around the world. Beckhams incredible talent found him on Englands World Cup Team in 1997. His handsome looks and boyish attitude make him one of Britains favorite celebrities.

The world of soccer continues to give us up and coming stars, but none can ever rival the status that the above players have earned.

When both partners are presumed to be fertile, artificial insemination (AI) can be attempted with sperm from the male partner (AIH - husband) if there is an anatomic defect in either partner that prevents the sperm from being deposited near the cervix. These defects include hyposadias (abnormal position of the urethral opening) in the man and an abnormal position of the cervix in the woman.

Artificial insemination also may be necessary in certain types of sexual dysfunction. If the male partner is not fertile but the woman is presumed to be, artificial insemination is attempted using sperm from a donor (AID), usually anonymous. The donor, generally matched to the partner in coloring and body build, is found by the woman's physician, either personally or through a sperm bank. The semen from a nonpartner must be screened for a variety of sexually transmissible diseases, including HIV infection, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis B and chlamydia.

Freezing of sperm decreases the likelihood of infection and allows more time for testing of the donor. This is being used increasingly. At the time of ovulation, the sperm is injected into the woman's vagina at the opening of the cervix. In some cases a newer artificial insemination procedure called intrauterine insemination (IUI) is used. The insemination catheter is placed directly into the uterus and bypasses the cervix.

Artificial insemination, which has been practiced for about two hundred years, was successfully used in the United States in 1884 for the first time. By 1990, this increasingly popular procedure accounted for the birth of thirty thousand babies annually, assisted by eleven thousand private doctors, four hundred sperm banks and over two hundred fertility centers. It should be noted that there are fewer than one percent birth defects when donor sperm are used, compared to six percent in the general population.

With few children available for adoption today, artificial insemination is the simplest way that some couples can have a child. However, it is not something to be undertaken lightly because it raises countless psychological, moral, religious and legal questions. Some men cannot cope with the fact that they are not the biologic father of their child, while other men feel that a child who has their wife's genes and whom they have raised is as much theirs as any child can be.

Couples who choose artificial insemination do not always have the support of others. In fact, because some major religious groups feel that artificial insemination with donor sperm is the equivalent of adultery, many couples who choose this procedure for achieving parenthood do not tell even their families or closest friends.

There are many legal questions about these children that have not yet been answered. Some courts in the United States, England and Canada have held that they are illegitimate, while other courts have held that a husband who agrees to the artificial insemination of his wife has an obligation to support the child. A few states have passed laws to attempt to clarify the legal position of these children, but further legislation is sorely needed. In the meantime, in increasing numbers, donor-inseminated offspring and some donors are trying to find their genetic kin.

I was reading the local Idaho rag this morning and learned that a New Mexico man had caught a mouse in his house. He decided he wanted it dead so he took it outside and threw it in to a pile of leaves he was burning. Thats when the fun began.

The mouse took fire and immediately ran back into the house. He got into the intricacies of the house and spread the flame. The article said that the reporter talked to the man in a motel room. He said that no one was hurt but that he had lost his house and his furnishings.

Well, we mustnt have this happen again, must we?

This might be a good time to set up some rules for handling creatures that like to live with us in our houses during the wintertime.

Never try to poison a mouse.

We put one of those cute little yellow triangular boxes full of poison in a place where we knew our dog could never reach it. Somehow it got out from under a very low shelf beneath my work bench. My dog ate the stuff and he died a miserable death. My veterinarian son and two of his fellow vets could not save him.

My son has a zillion stories about horses, dogs, cats and other creatures being poisoned by usually safe-to-use farm and household poisons.

I think the mouse did not like my dog.

He carefully nudged the little box of poison out from underneath my workbench with his nose so that my dog could reach it. This leads to a corollary: Remember that critters are smarter than humans.

Put a metal grid over your chimney.

Yesterday our rag had a story about a barn owl that got stuck in a ladys chimney. It took a while, but one of her family members got the bird out. When released, it flew right back into the barn. Im sure its spending the day there.

Some year back in Colorado a bat flew down our chimney. Then with a little of my pestering, it flew around the living room scaring the heck out of everybody.

After all, rats carry rabies. (My son had to take shots for rabies once after being bitten by a dog. In those days, the shots were given with a horse needle in the stomach. No fun!)

Anyway, I finally caught the bat in a cloth and took it outside. It took off like a bat. I think it headed south for Carlsbad Caverns.

Never try to get a skunk out from under your house with a long stick.

Its best to call a professional in this case. I guess that would be the fire department where I live. Have you heard of a HAVAHART trap? These two tips might keep you from getting sprayed: If you want to trap your skunk get a small trap (1078 and 1088) so that it can not raise its tail. Use for bait Chicken entrails, cracknels, fish-canned (sardines) or fresh-insect larvae such as may beetles, crisp bacon, cat food, bread crust coated with peanut butter. Place a blanket over the trap after the skunk has taken the bait and the trap doors are locked.

If you do get sprayed, the old remedy is tomato juice. Would you rather smell like skunk or the juice? Havahart has remedies which include tomato juice (http://www.havahart.com/nuisance/_old_skunks/skunk_solutions.htm). Skunk squirt is alkaline so acidic liquids like tomato juice and vinegar help.

So whats next if you have a skunk in a trap under a blanket? Call the Humane Society. They just love to get rid of animals.

When I became pregnant with my daughter, Aubrey, I was 21 years old, freshly married and scared to death! I read all the books, including the "What to Expect" series (even the infant and toddler ones). All these books gave us "one size fits all" kind of parenting advice.

When Aubrey was born, we practiced the "one size fit's all"; parenting advocated by all the books I read. We encouraged her to fall asleep on her on, meaning we let her cry herself to sleep. I also encouraged Aubrey to feel comfortable playing alone, and not need me. I did however KNOW that breast milk was best, and since I did not know that the resources were out there to seek help to learn HOW to breastfeed, I pumped.

Fast-forward 5 years.

I unexpectedly got pregnant with my son. This time I found myself alone. So, instead of reading (yet again) all the more mainstream books, I instead turned to my heart. I searched my heart for the kind of parent I wanted to be. The kind of child I wanted my son or daughter to be. I was not going to have help this time, so it had to be something I would understand, stick with and love, unlike the parenting style I choose with my older daughter.

I had no idea about Attachment Parenting. I did not know there was a name for how I instinctively parented my son. I just followed heart. I was steadfast in my resolve to breastfeed my son. I sought so much help in this. I had issues, just like many other first time nursing mommas. From problems with to much milk, to problems with the pace that my milk did flow as well. We struggled, but it was a struggle that really made me feel good, like I was really doing the best thing possible for myself and my child. We eventually "got it" and it was/is the best thing in the world for both of us!

Then while at a LLL Meeting someone was wearing a ring sling. I thought it was amazing to be able to hold your baby AND get something done! So I bought one. This was my first and not my most comfortable, but I learned that I could have my newborn son with me, and still tend to my 5-year-old daughter and get work done around the house.

I searched, high and low, to find the perfect sling for me. I learned how many different types there were, and decided on how I liked mine best. When I did not find one on the market that catered to my needs and wants, I created my own.

It was not till then, that I accidentally bumped into the name "Attachment Parenting"; I started reading, and was amazed and shocked that there were other mommas just like me. Mommas who loved their children enough to listen to their hearts AND their children's cries! I also learned that my co-sleeping is actually a great way to "attachment" parent, and is especially good when you are breastfeeding.

I was introduced to cloth diapers, which at first I thought, "NO WAY; Are people NUTS?"; Well I know different now. I then began cloth diapering my then 8 month old little boy. The patterns are so fun, the work is minimal and I know that I am doing just a little part to save the earth. Not to mention save some money! Another added benefit to my choosing cloth, is my son has extremely sensitive skin, and with cloth diapers he has had not ONE break out -- not even a hint of any type of diaper rash.

To me Attachment Parenting is not at all about a set guidelines though this is the set provided by Attachment Parenting International:

3. Breastfeed your Baby

4. Baby Wearing

5. Shared sleep and Safe Sleeping Guidelines

6. Avoid frequent and prolonged separations from your baby

7. Positive Discipline

8. Maintain balance in your family life

We (as a family) practice several or most of these guidelines, now. Though like I said, my daughter as a baby was not parented this way, so I have a good sense of the exact diffrences in the two children.

Why these guidelines are nice to see, they are (to me) just that guidelines, to me Attachment parenting is more about Instinctive parenting listening to my heart and doing what comes naturally to me, not about some set of guidelines I "must" follow.

Now my son is 22 months old, still and still totally "Attachment Parented," which to me means he is continueing to co-sleep, nurse, is still being worn on a daily basis, and still has cute cloth on his little butt every day AND night.

He walks, has started talking, and is becoming a real "little man" (I am sometimes sad to say.) I am confident that he is so well adjusted because I was and am so steadfast in "my kind of parenting"; and my beliefs.

Megan, many men know how to project sexual energy in a way that arouses women. These men define their worth by their sexuality and by their ability to attract woman. They know just how to sexually ignite a woman - its an energy that they are putting out that goes right into your genitals and makes you think that something real and important is happening. But they are operating from a sexual addiction rather than from caring or intimacy.

So what should I be doing when I feel that powerful sexual attraction?

You need to be telling yourself that this feeling doesnt mean anything that its just an energy that is being projected onto you but has nothing to do with love, intimacy, caring, or marriage. Real, long-lasting relationships take time to evolve. If you feel sexual upon first meeting someone, there is a good possibility that this man just wants a sexual encounter with you rather than a real relationship with you. My suggestion to you is to not have sex early in a relationship, even if you are very attracted.

Well, when do you have sex?

When you feel emotionally intimate. When you trust each other and really care about each others wellbeing. When you know that the feelings are not just sexual, and that the sexuality is coming from the emotional intimacy rather than from a sexual addiction. Why not wait until there is a commitment to the relationship and to learning and growing with each other? How often have you slept with a man that you were really attracted to and then had the relationship not work out?

More often than Im willing to admit. This is what keeps happening. So are you saying that I should also go out with men that Im not immediately attracted to?

Yes, if you like them. Often, sexual attraction grows as you really get to know a person. Many of my clients with the best relationships are people who were not immediately attracted to each other. The attraction grew as they fell in love with each other. Others, who were attracted immediately, lost their attraction as they got to know the person.

Many men can have sex and then just move on without any inner turmoil. Yet many women feel connected to a man when they have sex with him and then feel awful when the relationship doesnt work out. It is unloving to yourself to sleep with a man early in the relationship and then run the risk of being dumped because all he wanted was sex.

Another factor is that sex without emotional intimacy is often disappointing for both people. When you have sex too early in a relationship, it might not be emotionally or physically satisfying. When sex is not an expression of love, it often feels empty, and then the guy might decide that you are not the right person for him because there were no fireworks. Yet if you had waited for love to develop, it might have been wonderful. You really have nothing to lose by waiting.

But, replied Megan, I always think that a man wont like me if I dont have sex with him.

Well, if you doesnt like you for not having sex with him, what does this tell you about him?

I guess it tells me that he is not good husband material.

Right! So you have nothing to lose by not having sex right away.

Okay, I see that now. I see that what Ive been doing is never going to lead to marriage. Im going to put sex on the back burner and pay more attention to caring and intimacy.

It's inevitable for all women, and causes many changes. Best Values: Rudi Johnson & Steven Jackson
(Johnson has quietly put up back to back years of at least 1,400 yards and 12 TDs. This guy is definitely underrated, and will only improve as his team improves. Entering his third year in the league, this is going to be a big year for Jackson. With Marshall Faulk completely out of the picture at this point, this will be Jacksons season.)

Break-Out Year: Ronnie Brown
(Ronnie Brown was impressive when given the ball last year for the Dolphins. With Ricky Williams out of the picture entirely, Brown will be the featured back in the offense for Nick Saban and company. With a legit QB in Culpepper, the Dolphins will be for real, so will Brown.)

The Salt

Salt-cellars, sometimes called the salt, open salts or salt dips, have been around for centuries. They are the dishes from which salt was served with tiny spoons or the end of a knife blade. In informal situations, you could pinch the salt from the dishes.

Salt-cellars are attractive collectibles. They are unique and decorative. You can have an assortment yet they do not take up too much space. Plus, they are not too expensive so you can develop a collection without breaking the bank, ranging in price from a few dollars to pricier crystal or sterling silver.

Antique shops, flea markets, garage sales and E-bay are all good sources for salt-cellars.

How can sports possibly be be romantic? It's simple. Just ask any man who has cheered on his favorite team, while cuddling with his wife, and he'll tell you.

Many women I know profess to hate all sports. Why? Football Fans: Toss the football with him in the yard. If you've never played football before or just got your nails done, use a Nerf ball. When he lets you tackle him, you can sneak in a kiss.

Basketball Fans: Shoot hoops in the driveway. Play a game of "HORSE". The winner gets a back rub or snuggling afterwards. That way you both win!

Baseball Fans: Play catch with a water balloon on a hot summer day. Go to the batting cage. Or join a softball league together. It's great exercise, and you get to enjoy time together.

Hockey Fans: Dust off your rollerblades, grab a hockey stick and a street puck and hit the street with your husband. What do you have to lose other than a few inches off your thighs?

Fantasy Sports Fans: Join his Fantasy Football, Baseball or Basketball League. It's a great way to get to know his friends and also be one of the 'cool' wives. You might even surprise him and win a few games.

Golf Fans: Play golf together. Or, if your finances are tight, try a game of mini-golf!

NASCAR fans: Visit the local arcade. Find two racing games that are connected so you can race each other.

Tour de France fans: This one is easy. Pack a lunch and a few jugs of water on your bikes and hit the road.
